Mourinho Plans Real Madrid Squad Overhaul as Camavinga Leads Exit List

Real Madrid are expected to focus on player departures after completing several major signings this summer, with head coach José Mourinho reportedly beginning a significant overhaul of his squad ahead of the new season.

Following a busy transfer window that has seen the club invest more than €100 million in new arrivals, Madrid's priority is now to reduce the size of the first-team squad while generating funds to help balance their spending.

According to reports in Spain, Mourinho wants a leaner squad in which every player has a clearly defined role. The Portuguese manager and the club's sporting department are now assessing which players fit the long-term project and which could leave before the transfer window closes.

France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is among the most notable names linked with a potential exit. Once regarded as one of the club's long-term pillars, Camavinga is reportedly no longer considered untouchable after an inconsistent campaign last season.

Although Real Madrid are not actively pushing him out, the club would reportedly consider selling the 23-year-old if a suitable offer is received. His departure would also help create room for the club's new midfield structure under Mourinho.

Young defender Raúl Asencio is another player whose future remains uncertain. The arrival of France international Ibrahima Konaté has increased competition for places in central defence, reducing Asencio's chances of regular first-team football.

The attack also presents Mourinho with an important decision. Rising Brazilian striker Endrick and academy graduate Gonzalo are expected to compete during preseason for what could be a single place in the senior squad. Their performances in training and friendly matches will reportedly determine who remains with the first team for the 2026-27 campaign.

Meanwhile, highly rated Argentine teenager Franco Mastantuono is also awaiting clarity over his immediate future. A loan move had previously been considered to accelerate his development, but recent reports suggest Real Madrid may now prefer to keep the youngster at the club before making a final decision later in preseason.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding several players, Real Madrid remain committed to building around the core of Mourinho's new project. The club's objective is to create a balanced squad capable of competing for domestic and European honours while maintaining financial stability.

Further departures are expected before the transfer window closes as Real Madrid look to recover part of their summer investment and complete the next phase of Mourinho's rebuilding process.
