Morocco Targets 2030 World Cup Final at Hassan II Stadium

Morocco is targeting the 2030 FIFA World Cup final for Casablanca, with the planned Hassan II Stadium emerging as the country's preferred venue for the tournament's showpiece.

Royal Moroccan Football Federation president Fouzi Lekjaa said the final would be held in Casablanca, specifically in the Benslimane province where the new stadium is being built. However, FIFA has not officially confirmed the final venue and said a decision will be made in due course.

The Hassan II Stadium is currently under construction and is projected to accommodate around 115,000 spectators. If completed as planned, it would become one of the world's largest football-specific stadiums and a major landmark for Moroccan sport.

The proposed venue is located about 60 kilometres from Casablanca. Construction is expected to produce a stadium capable of hosting the biggest matches of the 2030 tournament.

Morocco, Spain and Portugal were officially appointed as the main hosts of the 2030 World Cup by FIFA's Extraordinary Congress in December 2024. Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will each host one centenary celebration match as part of the tournament's unique six-country format.

The decision to spread the tournament across three continents is linked to the centenary of the FIFA World Cup. The first edition was held in Uruguay in 1930, making the 2030 tournament a major celebration of the competition's history.

The opening part of the centenary celebrations will return to South America. Uruguay will host a match at the historic Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, while Argentina and Paraguay will also stage one fixture each.

Morocco's push to host the final would give Africa another opportunity to stage the biggest match in international football. The country became the first African nation to reach a World Cup semifinal when it made history at the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

Spain is also interested in hosting the final, making the venue decision a significant issue within the three-nation hosting arrangement. FIFA has rejected claims that the final has already been formally awarded to Morocco.

For now, the Hassan II Stadium remains Morocco's proposed venue for the decisive match. FIFA's eventual decision will determine whether Casablanca gets the opportunity to host the final of the historic 2030 World Cup.
