Morocco Target Group C Top Spot as Haiti Seek First World Cup Points

Posted : 24 June 2026

Morocco head into their final Group C match against Haiti with the opportunity to finish top of the group when the sides meet at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on June 25. The Atlas Lions currently sit level on points with Brazil but trail the five-time world champions on goal difference.

Morocco have enjoyed a strong start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Brazil before securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Scotland in their second match, extending their unbeaten run across all competitions to seven games.

Haiti, meanwhile, have endured a difficult tournament. After a narrow 1-0 defeat to Scotland in their opening fixture, they were officially eliminated following a 3-0 loss to Brazil. The Caribbean side are still searching for their first goal and first points of the competition, having last appeared at a World Cup in 1974.

Despite Morocco’s strong position, head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has warned against complacency. He stressed the importance of approaching the match with full focus, noting that Haiti will be highly motivated to end their tournament on a positive note.

Ouahbi confirmed that Morocco intend to field a strong lineup as they aim to secure first place in the group. He acknowledged that while the team may already be in a favourable position to qualify, their priority remains finishing the group stage with another win.

The Moroccan coach also highlighted the unpredictability of potential knockout opponents, stating that his side is not focused on future matchups but rather on maintaining performance against Haiti. He praised Haiti as a determined team and emphasized the need for patience in breaking them down.

For Morocco, much of the attacking responsibility is expected to fall on Ismael Saibari. The 25-year-old midfielder has scored in both of his World Cup appearances so far and has been one of the standout performers for Ouahbi’s side, contributing in both attack and defence.

Haiti will look to midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde to inspire a stronger performance. The Wolves player has been one of their most consistent performers at the tournament, showing creativity in possession and energy in midfield despite his team’s struggles.

With Morocco chasing top spot and Haiti seeking a breakthrough moment, the match presents contrasting motivations as both sides conclude their Group C campaigns.
