Morocco Sets Record with Perfect 2026 World Cup Qualifying Campaign

Posted : 15 October 2025

Morocco defeated Congo 1-0 to finish World Cup qualifying with a flawless record, surpassing Spain’s previous consecutive wins record.

Morocco made history on Tuesday, October 14, by beating Congo 1-0 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, completing a perfect run in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Substitute Youssef En-Nesyri scored the decisive goal in the second half, helping Walid Regragui’s team surpass Spain’s record of 15 consecutive wins set between 2008 and 2009. The Atlas Lions now boast eight wins from eight matches in Group E, becoming the only team to maintain a 100% record throughout the qualifiers.

The hosts dominated possession in the first half, creating several chances but failing to score. Nayef Aguerd’s free-kick went wide in the 20th minute, and Abde Ezzalzouli missed a clear opportunity in the 31st. Congo’s Deo Bassinga and Morocco’s Eliesse Ben Seghir also failed to find the net before halftime.

Morocco continued to press after the break, with goalkeeper Perrauld Ndinga making saves from Ismael Saibari and Neil El Aynaoui, before En-Nesyri finally broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute. Despite additional substitutions by Regragui, Morocco could not add to their one-goal lead against a resolute Congo defense.

Elsewhere in African qualifiers, Senegal and Ivory Coast claimed the final automatic spots for the 2026 World Cup. Senegal routed Mauritania 4-0, with Sadio Mane scoring twice, followed by goals from Iliman Ndiaye and Habib Diallo, finishing two points ahead of DR Congo.

Ivory Coast defeated Kenya 3-0 in Abidjan, with goals from Franck Kessie, Yan Diomande, and Amad, completing a perfect defensive record without conceding a goal throughout their 10-game campaign.

With these results, Morocco, Senegal, and Ivory Coast join Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, and South Africa in securing World Cup qualification.

The 10th African spot will be decided next year through inter-confederation play-offs among the best-ranked second-placed teams, including Cameroon, DR Congo, Gabon, and Nigeria, with the draw yet to be announced by the Confederation of African Football.
