Monaco Move Top of Ligue 1 as Brunner Double Sinks Marseille

Monaco climbed to the top of Ligue 1 after defeating Marseille 2-0 on Sunday, while Paris FC recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over Nice under new head coach Lionel Rosenior.

Paris Brunner was the standout performer for Monaco, scoring twice to maintain the club’s perfect start to the campaign. The victory gave Monaco six points from two matches and made them the only team in the division with a 100 per cent record.

The 20-year-old German opened the scoring in the 13th minute, rising to head home a cross from captain Aleksandr Golovin. Brunner struck again eight minutes after the restart, producing an impressive individual move before firing past Marseille goalkeeper Jeffrey De Lange.

Monaco coach Filipe Luís praised Brunner’s attitude and development, highlighting his willingness to contribute both offensively and defensively.

Brunner’s second goal effectively settled the contest as Marseille struggled to turn their possession into clear-cut opportunities. Monaco remained organised defensively to secure a second consecutive league victory.

In Paris, newly appointed Paris FC manager Lionel Rosenior celebrated his first league victory as his side swept aside Nice 3-0. The hosts took the lead in the 20th minute when new signing Lassine Sinayoko converted from the penalty spot.

Samir Chergui doubled the advantage six minutes after the restart following a rapid counter-attack, before Vincent Marchetti completed the scoring late in the match after capitalising on a loose ball.

Rosenior, who previously managed Chelsea and Strasbourg, was brought back to France by the Arnault family, the owners of Paris FC and the Louis Vuitton brand. The victory moved Paris FC into second place after their opening-day goalless draw at Troyes.

Elsewhere, Rennes climbed to fifth after edging Le Mans 3-2. Esteban Lepaul scored twice, including the decisive penalty deep into stoppage time, while Louis Mafouta netted both goals for Le Mans.

Monaco’s victory leaves the club at the summit with six points, ahead of Paris FC, Lille and Lyon on goal difference.
