Mohamed Salah Set for Trabzonspor Move After Hero's Welcome in Turkey

Mohamed Salah is on the verge of completing a surprise move to Turkish side Trabzonspor after arriving in Istanbul to a warm reception from hundreds of supporters. Wearing the club's burgundy and blue colours, the Egypt captain was greeted by cheering fans at Atatürk Airport as he prepared to finalise his transfer following the end of his Liverpool career.

The 34-year-old became a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the conclusion of last season, ending a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield. During his time with the Reds, Salah scored 257 goals, won multiple major trophies, and established himself as one of the Premier League's greatest forwards.

His free-agent status has enabled Trabzonspor to focus a significant portion of their budget on meeting his salary demands rather than paying a transfer fee.

Trabzonspor have already confirmed that negotiations with Salah are underway, with the experienced forward expected to complete medical examinations before officially signing his contract. The move is set to become one of the most high-profile transfers in Turkish football in recent years, reflecting the club's ambition to compete at both domestic and European level.

 

Salah will have the opportunity to play European football next season after Trabzonspor secured a third-place finish in the Turkish Super Lig. The club is preparing for the Europa League play-offs, with a place in the Conference League awaiting should they fail to progress to the group stage of Europe's second-tier competition.

 

The Egyptian forward leaves Liverpool as one of the most decorated players in the club's modern history. Having signed a lucrative contract extension in 2025 that reportedly made him Liverpool's highest-paid player, Salah now begins a new chapter in Turkey, where supporters hope his experience and goalscoring ability can inspire Trabzonspor to challenge for silverware.
