Mirian Okocha Wins NWFL Fan Vote After Decisive Goal in Intense Uyo Derby Victory

Posted : 10 April 2026

Ibom Angels forward Mirian Okocha has been crowned the standout player of the week following an engaging fan vote. The attacker earned the top honor after delivering a match-winning performance in the highly anticipated South-South derby. Okocha secured 1,039 votes from the supporters; this narrowly placed her ahead of Remo Stars Ladies' Hannah Ibrahim, who finished with 985 votes.

The recognition stems from Okocha’s clinical display during Matchday 13 of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL). She scored the only goal of the game in the 7th minute against powerhouse rivals Rivers Angels. This early breakthrough allowed Ibom Angels to defend their lead resolutely throughout a physically demanding and high-pressure encounter in Uyo.

Statistically, the voting reflected a very competitive week for individual brilliance across the league. While Okocha took the top spot, Hannah Ibrahim’s impressive brace for Remo Stars did not go unnoticed by the public. Other notable mentions in the poll included Uduakobong Monday Peter with 471 votes and Glory Edet, who gathered 377 votes for her defensive contributions.

Ibom Angels' victory has provided a significant boost to their mid-season momentum and league standing. Defeating a title contender like Rivers Angels serves as a statement of intent for the Akwa Ibom-based side. Technical observers praised Okocha not just for her goal; they also noted her exceptional hold-up play and composure under pressure from veteran defenders.

The high engagement in the voting process highlights the growing popularity and fan connection within the NWFL. Marvelous Ebube of Confluence Queens also made the shortlist with 277 votes after a strong showing in her respective fixture. This level of interaction demonstrates that fans are closely monitoring the tactical shifts and individual rivalries defining the 2026 season.

The result of the derby keeps the race for the Super Six tournament wide open in their group. Ibom Angels will look to build on this success and Okocha’s form as they prepare for their next league outing. The forward’s ability to deliver in "big game" scenarios has established her as one of the most clinical attackers in the current campaign.
