Millie Bright Retires After 17 Trophy-Laden Years with Chelsea Women

Posted : 29 April 2026

Millie Bright has announced her retirement from professional football after an outstanding 17-year career, bringing an end to a decorated spell with Chelsea Women. The defender leaves the game having won 20 major trophies and becoming one of the most influential figures in English women’s football.

Bright made 314 appearances for Chelsea Women, establishing herself as the club’s longest-serving player and a key leader during their era of domestic dominance. She joined Chelsea in 2015 from Doncaster Belles and went on to lift every major trophy the club has won since.

During her time at Chelsea, Bright collected multiple Women’s Super League titles, FA Cups, and League Cups, including two domestic trebles. She also set a WSL appearance record and captained the team during their unbeaten domestic season in 2024–25.

On the international stage, Bright earned 88 caps for England women's national football team, playing a crucial role in their UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 triumph. She later captained the side to the 2023 World Cup final, where England finished as runners-up.

Chelsea confirmed that Bright will be honoured at Stamford Bridge in their final WSL match of the season, as she transitions into ambassadorial and foundation roles within the club following her retirement.
