Milan's summer revolution: Overhaul, new signings, and title aspirations
Posted : 01 September 2023
Milan's summer transformation has been nothing short of revolutionary. Following a somewhat disappointing season, the club made significant management changes and invested heavily in new talent. The departure of club legend Paolo Maldini as technical director marked the start of a new era. Sandro Tonali, the most expensive Italian player in history, was sold to Newcastle for €64 million, and this money fueled Milan's spending spree, totaling €114 million on acquisitions.
The impact of the new arrivals was immediately evident in the first two rounds of the season, with Milan showcasing their prowess by defeating Bologna 0-2 and drawing with Tornio 1-4. Christian Pulisic, acquired for €20 million, made his mark with goals in both matches. Other key additions include Ruben Loftus-Cheek (€16 million), Tijani Reynders (€19 million), Younes Moussa (€20 million), Samuel Chukwueze (€20 million), Noah Okafor (€14 million), and the young Argentine talent Luca Romero, who arrived on a free transfer from Lazio.
Christian Pulisic, known as "Captain America," is determined to revitalize his career after a challenging season with Chelsea. His versatility has allowed him to shine on Milan's right flank. Milan's squad overhaul positions them as strong contenders for the title, especially with the retention of star players like Rafael Leao, Mike Maignan, and Theo Hernandez.
Milan has adopted a 4-3-3 formation, emphasizing their pace in attack, which has contributed to their impressive start to the season. Their main competitors for the Serie A title are expected to be Inter and Napoli, both of whom have also started strongly.
Luton, a team with limited Premier League experience, has faced tough challenges in their first two games, losing to Brighton and Chelsea. Their home stadium, Kenilworth Road, required renovations before hosting Premier League matches. Despite spending €11.5 million on stadium improvements, Luton faces a formidable opponent in West Ham for their first-ever Premier League home game.
Real Madrid has started the season with three wins despite injuries to key players like Vinicius, Thibaut Courtois, and Eder Militao. New signing Jude Bellingham, acquired for €103 million from Dortmund, has been instrumental, being involved in most of Real Madrid's goals. Borussia Mönchengladbach, facing Bayern Munich, may find some comfort in their historical record of positive results against Bayern and their recent unbeaten streak against them.
Harry Kane, who has been in fine form with three goals and an assist in his first two Bundesliga games, leads the charge for Gladbach against Bayern. His new teammate, Daniel Perez, is expected to make his debut in the squad.
