Michael Carrick Urges Manchester United to Strengthen Squad

Michael Carrick has called on Manchester United to continue strengthening their squad as they prepare for a season in which they hope to challenge for the Premier League title. United have spent around £85 million on Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow, but Carrick believes further additions are needed to compete with their biggest rivals.

Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea have all made significant investments in their squads, leaving United trailing some of the league's biggest spenders. Carrick acknowledged that financial circumstances are part of the situation but insisted the club must continue exploring ways to improve the team.

"We always want to improve. We want more, we need more," Carrick said, stressing that recruitment remains an ongoing process. The United boss also admitted he does not have all the answers regarding the club's spending compared with their rivals, but said the priority is to push every available option to make the squad stronger.

Carrick guided United to third place in the Premier League last season after taking charge midway through the campaign and has now been handed the permanent role. The club will also return to the Champions League, increasing the demands on squad depth as they prepare for the new campaign.

The manager remains confident that United can compete for major honours. While he stopped short of guaranteeing a title challenge, Carrick said the club should aim for something special and embrace the expectations that come with representing Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford is also back with the squad after his loan spell at Barcelona ended without a permanent transfer. Carrick described the England forward as an important player who can provide the team with qualities that are different from those offered by other members of the squad.

United begin their Premier League campaign away to newly promoted Hull City on August 22, with Carrick looking to build on last season's revival and turn renewed optimism into a genuine title challenge.
