Messi’s Inter Miami Appoint Kily Gonzalez as New Head Coach

Inter Miami have appointed former Argentina international Cristian “Kily” Gonzalez as their new head coach, replacing Guillermo Hoyos as the MLS champions look to recover from a difficult run of results. The 52-year-old Argentine will take charge once he receives the necessary US work permit, with Hoyos remaining temporarily in charge until then.

Gonzalez, who was born in Rosario like Lionel Messi, enjoyed a distinguished playing career with clubs including Valencia, Real Zaragoza and Inter Milan. He also earned 56 Argentina caps between 1995 and 2005 before moving into coaching in 2020, working with Rosario Central, Unión Santa Fe and Platense.

His appointment comes as Inter Miami attempt to arrest a sharp decline in form. The reigning MLS Cup holders have gone five matches without a victory, suffering four defeats during that run, although they remain near the top of the Eastern Conference.

Gonzalez inherits a star-studded squad led by Messi, with Luis Suarez, Rodrigo De Paul and Casemiro also among the club's high-profile players. Miami are hoping the experienced Argentine can restore momentum and help them mount another challenge for major honours.

Hoyos took over in April following Javier Mascherano's departure and initially guided the team through a strong spell. However, his tenure deteriorated in recent weeks, while MLS also handed him a one-match suspension and an undisclosed fine over repeated violations of the league's late-kickoff policy.
