Abia Warriors FC forward, Sunday Megwo, remains optimistic despite their hard-fought 1–0 defeat to league leaders Ikorodu City FC on Sunday in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 14 encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.
The Umuahia-born striker, making his eighth appearance of the season under coach Imama Amapakabo, said he was encouraged by the team’s overall performance despite the loss, stressing that there were positives to take from the game.
“Yes, we are disappointed with the outcome, but I don’t think we played badly. It just wasn’t enough to secure a positive result against a strong Ikorodu City side.
“I still believe we will bounce back to winning ways in our next game.”
He added: “We need to keep working hard and correct the mistakes we made. I think we did enough to get at least a point, but football is like that.”
Megwo expressed confidence ahead of their Match Day 15 clash with Rivers United on Sunday in Umuahia, stating that the team is determined to secure maximum points.
“It’s always a difficult game against Rivers United, home or away, but I believe we have what it takes to win. A lot is at stake, and we haven’t won our last three games, so it’s an important match for us. I’m hopeful we’ll get the maximum points on Sunday.”
Megwo has scored four goals and provided two assists in eight league appearances for Abia Warriors this season and will be aiming to return to scoring form when they welcome Rivers United at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
