Marseille Fans Hail Tochukwu Nnadi After Impressive Full Debut Against Nice

Posted : 30 April 2026

Nigerian midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi has made a lasting impression on the Marseille faithful following his standout performance during his first full start for the club. The 22-year-old was a central figure in the 1-1 draw against Nice on Sunday. After joining the French giants in January for a fee of €6m, the Super Eagles player had mostly been used as a late substitute. Coach Habib Beye finally handed him a starting role, and the youngster responded by orchestrating the team’s only goal of the match.

The defining moment came in the first half when Nnadi delivered a precise cross into the box. Pierre-Emile Højbjerg met the delivery with a diving header to give Marseille the lead. This marked a significant moment for Højbjerg as well, being his first league goal since late 2025. Nnadi’s contribution was not limited to just the assist; his overall statistical output showcased a player ready for the demands of Ligue 1 football.

During his 80 minutes on the pitch, the Nigerian international recorded 69 touches and remained a constant threat in transition. He completed 13 passes into the final third and created two key scoring opportunities. Fans on social media were quick to praise his work rate and technical ability. Some supporters even compared his playing style to former France legendary midfielder Claude Makélélé. Many fans expressed frustration that Nnadi had not been introduced into the starting lineup earlier in the campaign.

The club acknowledged his impact by sharing his heatmap on social media, highlighting his intensive coverage of the pitch. Under the post, fans called for him to remain an undisputed starter for the remainder of the season. Marseille currently sits in sixth place in the Ligue 1 standings. They are trailing the Champions League qualification spots by four points with only three matches left to play.

Nnadi’s emergence provides a timely boost for Coach Beye as the team pushes for European qualification. The midfielder's physical presence and ability to drive the ball forward offer a different dimension to the Marseille engine room. With the season reaching its climax, Nnadi will look to maintain this momentum to cement his place in the squad for the next campaign.
