Marcus Rashford Open to Manchester United Sale Amid Uncertain Future at Aston Villa

Posted : 15 May 2025

Marcus Rashford believes Manchester United would be willing to sell him for around £40 million this summer, not just to Aston Villa but potentially to any interested club. The 27-year-old moved to Villa on loan in February, with the deal including a £40 million option-to-buy clause. However, this clause does not stop other clubs from making a move, and Rashford’s short-term contract with Villa is set to expire on June 30.

Villa manager Unai Emery has confirmed that Rashford will not feature for the club again this season, as the forward continues to recover from a hamstring injury sustained just before their FA Cup semi-final loss to Crystal Palace.

Rashford is also ineligible to play in Villa’s final game against his parent club, Manchester United, on May 25. Despite enjoying his time under Emery and contributing significantly to Villa’s journey to the Champions League quarter-finals, no permanent transfer discussions have taken place so far.

Villa still aim to finish in the Premier League’s top five, which would secure a Champions League spot and improve their chances of negotiating a deal for Rashford. However, sources close to the player emphasize that Rashford has no plans to accept a pay cut from his current estimated weekly wage of £325,000.

Meanwhile, Rashford’s camp is under the impression that United’s manager Ruben Amorim does not intend to reintegrate him into the squad. This situation has drawn comparisons to last year’s tense relationship between Jadon Sancho and then-United manager Erik ten Hag, which ultimately led to Sancho’s transfer to Chelsea.

At present, it is expected that Rashford will return to Manchester United for pre-season training in July. United’s schedule includes a friendly against Leeds in Sweden on July 19, followed by three matches in the Premier League’s summer tournament in the United States. The team will wrap up their pre-season preparations with a game against Fiorentina, which features former United goalkeeper David de Gea, at Old Trafford on August 9.
