Marcellin Bocovè elected new Benin Football Federation president

Marcellin Bocovè has been elected the new president of the Benin Football Federation, bringing an end to Mathurin de Chacus' eight-year tenure. Bocovè will lead the federation for the 2026-2030 term after winning a decisive vote in Missérété on Tuesday.

The elective General Assembly was held at the Centre of Excellence in Akpro-Missérété. Bocovè was the only presidential candidate after the two lists involved in the electoral process merged to form the "Ensemble, visons plus haut" ticket.

The new president secured 76 votes from 79 delegates who took part in the ballot. There was one vote against and two abstentions, giving Bocovè more than 96 per cent support among those who voted.

Bocovè succeeds de Chacus, who had been in charge of the FBF since 2018. His election marks a change in leadership, although the new administration is expected to continue several programmes aimed at strengthening Beninese football.

The new president brings experience from both football administration and professional management. He has served as president of ASVO, a Beninese top-flight club, since its creation in 2011 and was re-elected to the position in July 2026.

Bocovè is also an engineer by profession and has worked in infrastructure project management. His background in club administration and project leadership will now be tested at national federation level.

His first major task will be to implement the programme presented by his "Ensemble, visons plus haut" team. The administration is expected to focus on national competitions, the development of the national teams, player training and grassroots football.

The new executive committee includes eight vice-presidents. Sylvain Lawson has been appointed first vice-president, while Ayéma Pedro will serve as second vice-president, with Chantal Ahyi also among the senior officials.

Bocovè has also paid tribute to his predecessor after taking office. In his first remarks as president, he thanked those who supported the electoral process and stressed that his administration would focus on action and service.

The leadership change comes as Benin continues to develop its football structures and national teams. Bocovè's four-year mandate will now determine how the federation builds on recent progress while addressing the demands of domestic football, youth development and international competition.
