Manchester United Women's Team Makes History with First Women's FA Cup Victory

Posted : 12 May 2024

Manchester United wrote their name in history books with a commanding 4-0 victory over Tottenham in the Women's FA Cup final at Wembley. After their defeat in the previous year's final to Chelsea, United displayed dominance under the north London sun, led by an impressive display of attacking football.

The goal spree for United began late in the first half, with Ella Toone's fine finish breaking the deadlock. Soon after the interval, Rachel Williams headed home to extend United's lead, before a crucial mistake by Tottenham's goalkeeper Becky Spencer gifted Lucia Garcia the third goal just three minutes later. Garcia then secured her brace late in the game to seal United's emphatic victory, erasing the disappointment of their underwhelming season in the Women's Super League.

Reflecting on the historic win, United boss Marc Skinner expressed pride in his team's achievement, emphasizing the significance of adding the first piece of silverware to the club's trophy cabinet. Despite their position in the league, Skinner highlighted the support and growth within the club, acknowledging the importance of the momentous victory in their journey.

The victory marked a significant shift in the Women's FA Cup landscape, as it broke the dominance of Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City, who had won the tournament consecutively for nearly a decade. Skinner commended his team's performance, praising their control and determination throughout the game, and emphasized the magical feeling of clinching the historic win from start to finish.
