Manchester United to consider signing Victor Osimhen if their pursuit of Harry Kane falls through - Former Watford scout

Posted : 08 June 2023
Renowned football scout and executive Tor-Kristian Karlsen, known for his work with various clubs including Watford and Monaco, has emphasized the exceptional finishing skills of Victor Osimhen, describing him as one of the best.

In an article, Karlsen has urged Manchester United to consider securing Osimhen's signature in the event that their pursuit of Harry Kane proves unsuccessful.

Having worked for notable clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, Grasshoppers, Zenit St. Petersburg, and held positions as sporting director at Monaco, Fredrikstad, Maccabi Haifa, and IK Start, Karlsen's expertise in identifying talent lends weight to his endorsement of Osimhen.

Osimhen showcased his goal-scoring prowess during his time at Napoli in the Serie A, emerging as the league's top scorer with an impressive tally of 26 goals.

This achievement places him among the top five goal scorers in Europe's major leagues.

Unsurprisingly, Osimhen's performances have attracted interest from several top clubs across the continent, with Manchester United being among the suitors vying for his services.

Despite Erik ten Hag's successful debut season as manager of the Red Devils, the team has struggled with a lack of consistent goal-scoring throughout the campaign, highlighting the need for a proven striker.

While Manchester United has made Harry Kane their primary target, the uncompromising stance of Tottenham Hotspur's Chairman, Daniel Levy, presents significant obstacles in securing the English striker's services.

In light of this, Karlsen believes that Osimhen's exceptional qualities make him an attractive alternative for Manchester United.

He suggests that if the club fails to secure Kane, they should pursue a deal for Osimhen, provided they possess the financial capability to do so.

"If they have over €100m to spend on a new striker and Kane slips out of their hands, the club should be frontrunners to land Osimhen, who was Napoli's top scorer (31 goals in 39 games across all competitions this season) as they lifted the Serie A title," Karlsen said.
