Manchester United Set to Appoint Eva Olid as Women's Head Coach

Manchester United are closing in on the appointment of former Hearts manager Eva Olid as the club's new women's head coach following the departure of Marc Skinner.

The 40-year-old Spaniard is expected to meet the squad as the club finalises her arrival, with the Women's Super League season less than a month away. Her appointment signals the beginning of a new era as United look to build on recent progress while placing greater emphasis on developing young talent.

Olid arrives with an impressive reputation after leading Hearts to their first-ever Scottish Women's Premier League title. During her five-year spell in Edinburgh, she transformed the club into genuine title contenders, also guiding the team to its first major domestic cup final.

Although Hearts announced earlier this year that both parties had agreed to part ways at the end of the season, her achievements made her one of the most sought-after coaches in the women's game.

She replaces Marc Skinner, whose five-year tenure ended by mutual consent despite delivering Manchester United Women's first major trophy by winning the 2024 Women's FA Cup.

Skinner also led the club into the UEFA Women's Champions League group stage and oversaw several domestic cup final appearances, but concerns over limited investment and a shift in the club's recruitment strategy contributed to his departure.

Manchester United have increasingly focused on signing and developing younger players rather than competing in the escalating transfer market.

Club officials viewed Olid's track record of nurturing talent as a key factor in her selection, believing her coaching philosophy aligns with their long-term vision. She is expected to take charge ahead of United's Women's Super League opener against London City Lionesses on 4 September.
