Manchester United Rule Out Trophy Parade Amid Cost-Cutting and Scheduling Pressures

Posted : 13 May 2025

Manchester United will not hold a victory parade if they win the upcoming final in Bilbao on Wednesday, 21 May. In addition, players are only being allocated two complimentary tickets each for the match, and they are expected to travel to the game on the same day. These decisions follow recent cost-cutting efforts at the club, which have included staff redundancies and the scrapping of free lunches.

Although players have the option to purchase up to ten extra tickets for the match against Tottenham at San Mames Stadium, they are fully responsible for coordinating travel arrangements for their guests.

The club has stated its intent to ensure that the majority of its official 15,000 ticket allocation is reserved for fans. Meanwhile, staff who previously received complimentary match tickets will no longer do so and will instead be invited to a viewing party in central Manchester.

Unlike Manchester United, Tottenham have yet to confirm their post-final plans, but a celebratory parade is reportedly being considered. Such events are not uncommon—Newcastle celebrated their Carabao Cup win with a city parade in March, and Liverpool plan to mark their Premier League title with a similar event on 26 May.

United, however, have not staged a trophy parade since 2013, the year Sir Alex Ferguson retired. There was also notable frustration in 2008 when no celebration was held after their Champions League victory over Chelsea.

Logistical challenges also make a parade unlikely this season. Following the final in Bilbao, United still have one Premier League fixture left, facing Aston Villa at Old Trafford on 25 May. Shortly after that, the team is scheduled to fly to Asia for post-season matches in Malaysia and Hong Kong, returning on 31 May.

International duties quickly follow, with players like Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot potentially involved in Nations League and World Cup qualifiers in early June.
