Manchester United F.C. are reportedly in advanced discussions with Michael Carrick over a permanent contract to become the club’s head coach.
Carrick, who has been serving as interim manager since January, is expected to sign a two-year agreement that could include an option for an additional season. Senior figures within the club are believed to have identified the former midfielder as the preferred choice to lead the team moving forward.
Speaking during a press conference on Friday, the 44-year-old acknowledged that clarity over his future should arrive soon. Reports suggest an official announcement could come before Manchester United’s final home match of the season against Nottingham Forest.
Carrick’s strong run of results has significantly strengthened his position. Since taking charge, he has guided United to 10 victories in 15 league matches, helping secure qualification for next season’s Champions League and putting the club on course for a third-place finish in the Premier League.
Key executives including chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox are understood to have recommended Carrick’s appointment to minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, with negotiations continuing positively.
The former England international has also earned support from both the dressing room and a large section of the fanbase, many of whom believe he deserves the opportunity after stabilising the team during a difficult period.
Carrick has additionally been shortlisted for the Premier League Manager of the Season award following his impressive impact since stepping into the role.
Ahead of Sunday’s match at Old Trafford, Carrick confirmed that veteran midfielder Casemiro will be available for what could be his farewell appearance at the stadium.
Carrick also revealed plans to address supporters after the match, continuing a long-standing tradition established by legendary former manager Alex Ferguson. He emphasized the importance of thanking fans for their support throughout the season and during his time in charge.
