Manchester United holds firm on valuation as Jadon Sancho exit looms

Posted : 16 November 2023
Manchester United is standing firm on Jadon Sancho's valuation, unwilling to let the English forward depart at a discounted rate if a move happens in January, according to a source. Despite Sancho's exclusion from the first-team squad following a public dispute with manager Erik ten Hag, United is open to considering offers for the talented player. Clubs like Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have expressed interest, but United is determined to minimize the financial impact of Sancho's departure.

Reports suggest that United anticipates rival clubs attempting to take advantage of Sancho's situation by proposing a loan deal while expecting United to cover the majority of his £300,000-a-week salary. While United has not ruled out a temporary arrangement, they would seek a substantial contribution to his wages and, ideally, a loan fee. Sancho, who joined United in a £73 million deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, is under contract until 2026 with an option for an additional year.

Despite the potential for a loan deal, United remains firm on its stance, with manager Erik ten Hag insisting that Sancho apologize for publicly contesting the reasons for his omission from the squad. Sancho, who last played in August, has yet to comply with the request.

United's leadership, including football director John Murtough, has backed ten Hag, and there's little indication of a change in stance, even with the arrival of incoming shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team, who are finalizing the purchase of a 25% stake for approximately £1.3 billion.

Ten Hag is reportedly persistent in seeking an apology from Sancho, both privately and publicly, before considering any potential return for the 23-year-old at Manchester United.
