Manchester United Confirm Michael Carrick as Permanent Head Coach on Two-Year Deal

Manchester United have officially confirmed Michael Carrick as their permanent head coach, handing the 44-year-old a two-year contract following an impressive spell in interim charge.

Carrick took over in January after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim and immediately stabilised the team during a turbulent period. His leadership has guided Manchester United to Champions League qualification and a strong finish in the Premier League.

Under his stewardship, United have secured third place after a dramatic victory over Nottingham Forest. Since taking charge, Carrick has won 11 of his 16 matches, with his side collecting more points than any other Premier League team during that period.

The former Middlesbrough manager has earned praise for restoring consistency and discipline to the squad. His efforts have also placed him on the shortlist for the Premier League Manager of the Season award.

Carrick, a former United midfielder, described the appointment as a proud moment, reflecting on his long connection with the club since joining as a player two decades ago. He said the squad had demonstrated resilience and unity during a challenging campaign.

He added that the focus now is on building a stronger future, with the ambition of returning United to regular contention for major trophies. Carrick stressed that both the players and supporters deserve a team competing at the highest level again.

United were in crisis earlier in the season following Amorim’s departure, amid poor results and tactical disagreements within the squad. Carrick’s calm approach and tactical adjustments helped restore stability at Old Trafford.

Having previously served briefly as caretaker manager in 2021, Carrick brings both experience and familiarity with the club’s structure. During his playing career at Old Trafford, he won multiple Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.

Despite the positive turnaround, analysts believe Carrick now faces a significant challenge to maintain progress across a longer season with increased fixtures. Squad depth and recruitment are expected to play a key role in sustaining United’s momentum moving forward.
