Manchester United Complete Chido Obi Loan Move to Willem II in Holland

Manchester United forward Chido Obi has completed a season-long loan move to Dutch club Willem II, giving the teenage striker an opportunity to gain regular first-team experience in the Eredivisie. The deal was confirmed after Obi completed his medical in the Netherlands.

The 18-year-old will remain with Willem II until the end of the 2026/27 season. The agreement is a straight loan and does not include an option for the Dutch club to make the transfer permanent.

Obi was born in Denmark and represents the country at youth international level. He began his development at FC Copenhagen before moving to Arsenal, where he established himself as one of the most prolific young forwards in the club’s academy.

The striker joined Manchester United in 2024 and continued his development within the club’s youth setup. He made his senior debut in February 2025 at the age of 17 during a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Obi has made eight first-team appearances for Manchester United. However, opportunities at senior level have remained limited, making a loan spell an important step in his development.

The youngster enjoyed a productive campaign with Manchester United’s youth teams last season. He scored 20 goals in 37 appearances for the club’s Under-18 and Under-21 sides, demonstrating his goalscoring ability despite limited senior opportunities.

Willem II believe the Eredivisie will provide the teenager with the competitive environment needed to continue his progress. Technical director Freek Heerkens described Obi as a talented young striker who is at an important stage of his development and needs regular playing experience.

Obi also welcomed the move, saying he wants to play as much as possible, gain experience and continue improving while helping the team. His immediate objective will be to establish himself in the Willem II first team and adapt to senior football in the Netherlands.

The loan move comes after Manchester United decided that regular first-team football would be more beneficial to Obi than another season with limited opportunities at Old Trafford. The club will monitor his progress before deciding on his next step when the loan ends.

For Obi, the spell at Willem II represents his first loan move away from Manchester United. A successful campaign in the Netherlands could strengthen his chances of competing for a more prominent role at Old Trafford in the future.
