Manchester United Close In on Carlos Baleba Transfer

Manchester United are closing in on an agreement to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba after reviving their interest in the Cameroon international. United have submitted an offer worth around £60 million plus £5 million in potential add-ons, with talks continuing despite the bid falling below Brighton’s valuation.

United previously explored a move for Baleba last summer, but Brighton’s valuation of more than £100 million prevented a deal. With that asking price now significantly reduced, United have returned for the 22-year-old after missing out on alternative midfield targets.

The proposed transfer would further strengthen United’s midfield following the arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. Baleba would add defensive strength and athleticism to Michael Carrick’s midfield options.

Baleba is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained during pre-season and is expected to be sidelined for another two to three weeks. Despite the injury, Sky Sports reports that he is preparing to travel to Manchester for a medical, with United already having a five-year contract prepared.

The midfielder made 35 appearances for Brighton last season and has established himself as an important defensive presence since joining the club from Lille in 2023. United are now working with Brighton to finalize the fee and structure of the transfer.
