Manchester City's Guardiola Rules Out Barcelona Return

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has firmly stated that he will not return to Barcelona in the future, despite his contract with City expiring in June 2025. Guardiola, who led Barcelona to 14 titles during his tenure, hinted earlier that next season could be his last at the Etihad.

 

During a news conference at his golf tournament in Girona, Spain, Guardiola addressed the possibility of returning to Barcelona, saying, "It's a door that is closed." He highlighted the complexities of managing the Barça bench and the difference in how matters are handled compared to Manchester.

 

Despite comparisons to Xavi Hernández, Guardiola emphasized that he's been away from Barcelona for over a decade and isn't involved in the comparisons. He wished Xavi the best and expressed confidence in Barça's new coach, Hansi Flick, who succeeded Xavi after a trophy-less 2023-24 season.

 

Flick, who achieved considerable success at Bayern Munich including a treble in 2020, was described by Guardiola as an extraordinary person with a lot of desire. Guardiola believes Flick needs time to implement his strategies and build the team gradually, acknowledging Barcelona's strong rival, Real Madrid, with or without Kylian Mbappé.

 

Guardiola expressed that Real Madrid remains a formidable force in LaLiga and the Champions League, serving as motivation for other clubs to challenge them. He acknowledged Madrid's strength and the impact of Mbappé's addition to their squad.
