Manchester City manager Guardiola contemplates resting key players ahead of crucial matches

Posted : 05 April 2024

Manchester City's star players Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne were sidelined as unused substitutes in their recent 4-1 victory against Aston Villa, where Phil Foden netted a hat-trick, showcasing City's depth in talent. Currently standing third in the Premier League, City trail behind Liverpool by three points and Arsenal by one, setting up a tight race for the top spot.

With a crucial Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid looming next Tuesday, City manager Pep Guardiola hinted at the possibility of resting Haaland and De Bruyne once again for their upcoming match against Crystal Palace. Guardiola emphasized the importance of managing player fatigue, especially given the tight schedule and the need to balance domestic and European commitments.

Guardiola acknowledged the challenges posed by the congested fixture list, stating that player recovery is a key consideration when planning the lineup. Despite the demanding schedule, City remains focused on maintaining their unbeaten streak in the Premier League since early December, aiming to secure victories in their remaining matches to keep their title hopes alive.

Reflecting on the upcoming clash against Crystal Palace, Guardiola highlighted the threat posed by the opposition, noting their history of strong performances against City. Guardiola praised Palace's manager Oliver Glasner for his work and highlighted the quality players in their squad, emphasizing the need for City to approach the match with caution and determination to secure a positive result.
