Manchester United are reportedly considering Barcelona midfielder Fermín López as a potential addition ahead of the January transfer window. The 23-year-old has emerged as a target as the club assesses its options for strengthening the attacking midfield position.
According to reports from Spain, United have made enquiries about López and Atlético Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios. However, no formal negotiations have started. The interest comes amid uncertainty surrounding Bruno Fernandes’ long-term future at Old Trafford.
López has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign, recording five goals and four assists in 12 appearances for Barcelona. His performances have attracted interest from several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
Barcelona, however, are reportedly unwilling to consider his departure. The midfielder renewed his contract in January 2026, with his current agreement running until 2031. He is also regarded as an important part of Hansi Flick’s plans.
United's reported interest in a replacement for Fernandes follows a difficult period involving the club captain and manager Michael Carrick. Fernandes criticised the team's tactics after a heavy defeat to Como and was subsequently dropped for the 3-0 loss against Bournemouth.
The pair later held discussions to resolve their disagreement. Carrick confirmed that Fernandes remained committed to United and would retain the captaincy. The Portuguese midfielder returned to the starting lineup for Saturday's Premier League match against Chelsea.
Elsewhere, Arsenal are reportedly exploring a January loan move for Real Madrid forward Endrick. The 20-year-old has struggled for regular playing time under José Mourinho, prompting speculation about another temporary move.
TEAMtalk reports that Arsenal have maintained contact over a possible loan, potentially with an option to make the deal permanent. Real Madrid remain keen to keep the Brazilian, while reports from Spain indicate that his future is still undecided. AC Milan and Roma have also been linked with the forward.
Manchester United are also monitoring Fulham defender Calvin Bassey as they prepare to strengthen their defence. The Nigeria international has impressed this season and has reportedly attracted attention from several clubs across Europe.
Bassey's contract situation could make him an attractive option. His current Fulham deal is due to expire next summer, although the club reportedly have an option to extend it by another year. Newcastle United, Everton, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have also been linked with the defender.
United are additionally assessing their left-back and striker options. Injuries to Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu and Benjamin Sesko have increased the need for reinforcements in those positions.
Barcelona are also expected to revisit their interest in Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni. The Spanish club reportedly considered a move last summer but could not reach an agreement with Inter.
Meanwhile, Lisandro Martínez's future at United remains uncertain following his criticism of the club's transfer planning. Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have been linked with the Argentine defender, although no agreement has been announced.
