Transfer News: Man City Enter Gakpo Race as Newcastle Close in on Nico Gonzalez

Posted : 25 August 2026

Manchester City have emerged as surprise contenders for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo as the summer transfer window approaches its conclusion. Tottenham remain interested in the Netherlands international, but City's late involvement could complicate the situation.

Gakpo, 27, has established himself as an important attacking option at Liverpool, but reports suggest the situation could change if the Reds make progress in their pursuit of another winger. Manchester City are now monitoring the forward alongside Tottenham as clubs look to complete their final deals before the 1 September deadline.

Newcastle Agree Nico Gonzalez Deal

Newcastle United have reached a verbal agreement with Manchester City for Spanish midfielder Nico Gonzalez. The proposed transfer is worth £47m upfront, with a further £3m available in add-ons, taking the potential package to £50m.

Gonzalez, 24, joined City from Porto in January 2025 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. His impending departure would provide City with funds and squad space as they continue to reshape their midfield.

For Newcastle, the midfielder would provide additional experience and versatility in the centre of the pitch following major changes to their midfield options this summer. The Magpies are keen to strengthen before the transfer deadline, with Gonzalez now close to completing the move.

Man Utd Target Myles Lewis-Skelly

Manchester United are reportedly confident they can reach an agreement with Arsenal for Myles Lewis-Skelly. The 19-year-old England international can operate at left-back or in midfield and has become one of Arsenal's most highly regarded young players.

However, Arsenal's valuation remains a major obstacle, with the Gunners reportedly seeking more than £50m for the versatile youngster. United will need to convince Arsenal to part with a player who has emerged from their academy and has already established himself at senior level.

Newcastle Also Pursue Fernandez-Pardo

Newcastle are pursuing further attacking reinforcements and have submitted a proposal worth €40m (£34.2m), excluding bonuses, for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo.

The 21-year-old Belgium international is another target as Newcastle continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the transfer deadline. The Magpies' interest in Fernandez-Pardo comes alongside their efforts to complete the Gonzalez deal.

Chelsea Rebuffed in Alex Scott Pursuit

Chelsea have reportedly seen three offers rejected by Bournemouth for England midfielder Alex Scott. The 23-year-old remains on Chelsea's radar, but Bournemouth have so far resisted attempts to prise him away from the south coast.

The Blues are looking to reshape their squad before the window closes, although they face a difficult task in convincing Bournemouth to sell one of their key midfielders.

Hull City Target Ilyas Ansah

Hull City have made a €21m (£17.9m) offer for Union Berlin forward Ilyas Ansah. Negotiations over a long-term contract for the Germany Under-21 international are reportedly at an advanced stage.

The 21-year-old attacker has attracted interest with his performances in Germany, and Hull are pushing to complete a deal before the transfer window shuts.

AC Milan Consider Mazraoui Move

AC Milan are considering a late approach for Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui. The Morocco international could become a target for the Italian giants as they assess their options before the end of the window.

Mazraoui, 28, has been an important member of United's squad since joining the club, but Milan are reportedly exploring whether a deal could be reached.

Dele Alli Offered Monza Route Back to Serie A

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Dele Alli could be handed another opportunity in Italy, with Monza reportedly preparing a one-year contract offer.

The 30-year-old has been without a club since leaving Como in September 2025. A move to Monza would give Alli another chance to revive his career after a difficult period in which injuries and a lack of regular football disrupted his progress.
