Maikaba Handed Bayelsa United Job as Promotion Mission Begins

Bayelsa United have appointed experienced coach Abdul Maikaba as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

The Yenagoa-based club confirmed the appointment as part of efforts to rebuild the team following its relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Maikaba, one of the country's most experienced football coaches, brings a proven track record in Nigerian football, having managed several top-flight clubs, including Kano Pillars, Akwa United, Rangers International, and Wikki Tourists.

Widely respected for his tactical approach and ability to develop competitive teams, the veteran coach is expected to spearhead Bayelsa United's push for an immediate return to the NPFL.

His appointment reflects the club's ambition to mount a strong promotion challenge after an underwhelming campaign that ended in relegation.

The club's management believes Maikaba's vast experience and leadership qualities will provide the stability needed to rebuild the squad and restore Bayelsa United's status among Nigeria's elite clubs.
