Luis Enrique Hails PSG's Mental Shift After Champions League Final Berth

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique credited his team's mental transformation and unwavering effort after their 2-1 win over Arsenal secured a 3-1 aggregate victory and a place in the UEFA Champions League final. Enrique highlighted the importance of emotional discipline on the sidelines, noting that staying composed helps set the tone for his players and avoids sending the wrong message.

 

The coach said he had to reflect on his own behavior and decided to project calmness during games to ensure his team maintained focus and resilience under pressure.

 

The Spaniard revealed that a pivotal moment in the team’s journey came when poor Champions League results earlier in the season prompted a critical internal meeting. During the discussion, Enrique and his staff reminded the players of their potential and urged them to stay focused despite setbacks.

 

That meeting, he said, marked a change in attitude and performance, laying the foundation for PSG's eventual turnaround and success in Europe. The coach emphasized that this shift wasn’t the result of one isolated moment, but a daily commitment to intensity and standards in training.

 

Enrique underscored that he demanded a different mindset from his squad this season, warning them early on that without the right mentality in every training session, he would walk away. He commended the players for meeting those demands, which he believes have elevated the entire group’s performance.

 

PSG, who last reached the Champions League final in 2020, are now aiming to win the prestigious title for the first time in their history, with the final against Inter Milan scheduled for May 31 in Munich.

 

Veteran captain Marquinhos, who joined PSG in 2013 and has experienced several disappointments in Europe, praised Enrique for transforming the team step by step, especially in terms of mentality. He acknowledged that changing the mindset of a group takes time, but key matches against teams like Manchester City and Liverpool boosted the squad’s belief.

 

Reflecting on previous seasons where PSG created chances but failed to convert them, Marquinhos said the current campaign's results are evidence that the team is finally moving in the right direction.
