Lookman Celebrates Madrid Derby Win as Orban Fires Amedspor to Super Lig Summit

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman celebrated a memorable Madrid derby victory as Atletico Madrid defeated Real Madrid 2-1 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Sunday. Gift Orban also delivered another outstanding display in Turkey, scoring and assisting as Amedspor defeated Besiktas 3-2 to move to the top of the Super Lig.

Lookman entered the Madrid derby in the 65th minute, replacing Alex Baena, and played the closing stages as Atletico secured a major victory over their city rivals. Alejandro Grimaldo converted a penalty in the 53rd minute before Jonathan David doubled Atletico's lead six minutes later.

Real Madrid reduced the deficit through Antonio Rudiger in the 89th minute, but Atletico held on for all three points. The victory moved Diego Simeone's side to 16 points, while Real Madrid remained on 15 points.

The appearance was another step in Lookman's involvement with Atletico since his move to the Spanish club. The Nigerian has now featured in seven LaLiga matches this season and has scored once.

Orban was equally influential in Turkey as Amedspor defeated Besiktas 3-2 at Diyarbakir Stadium. The Nigerian forward opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a long-range effort before setting up Dia Saba for Amedspor's second goal nine minutes later.

Furkan Soyalp added Amedspor's third goal after the break. Besiktas scored twice in response, but the newly promoted side held on to claim a significant victory and move to the top of the league.

Orban's latest goal took his league tally to seven, while he also has two assists from six Super Lig appearances. His current form has made him one of the leading attacking players in the Turkish top flight.

Amedspor's victory moved the club to 13 points from six matches. The result also saw them take the league's top position heading into the international break. Fellow Nigerian Collins Yira Sor missed the game because of injury, while Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi was an unused substitute for Besiktas.

Ibrahim Olawoyin also scored in Turkey as Caykur Rizespor drew 2-2 away to Goztepe. Olawoyin completed the match and registered his first league goal of the season, but Rizespor conceded a 94th-minute penalty that allowed Efkan Bekiroglu to rescue a point for the hosts.

In England, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi both started as Fulham drew 1-1 with Manchester United at Craven Cottage. Bassey's shot was saved before Lisandro Martinez turned the rebound into his own net in the 63rd minute, while Iwobi played more than 70 minutes. Matheus Cunha equalised for United in the 89th minute.

Bassey completed the match, while Iwobi was substituted in the second half. The result left Fulham still searching for their first league victory, while Manchester United took five points from their opening five Premier League matches.

In Germany, Victor Boniface remained an unused substitute as Bayer Leverkusen defeated RB Leipzig 2-0. Patrik Schick and Miguel Gutierrez scored for Leverkusen, while Nathan Tella continued his recovery from injury.

Kevin Akpoguma was also an unused substitute as Frosinone defeated Como 2-0 in Italy. The Nigerian defender is still waiting for his first Serie A appearance after joining the club from Hoffenheim.

Christantus Uche missed Getafe's 1-0 home victory over Malaga through injury. Ivan Azon scored the decisive goal as Getafe bounced back from their midweek defeat to Real Betis.

The weekend produced mixed results for Nigerian players abroad, but Lookman's derby victory and Orban's decisive performance in Turkey provided the standout moments. Both players made important contributions as their clubs collected victories with significant implications for their respective league campaigns.
