Benue Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Creativity, Tiza Imojime, has confirmed that Nigerian National League (NNL) side Lobi Stars of Makurdi will soon resume playing their home matches at McCarty Stadium, Makurdi.
For the past five years, Lobi Stars have played home games at venues such as Lafia City Stadium, Bauchi, and Enugu due to renovations at both Aper Aku Stadium and McCarty Stadium.
Imojime assured fans that their team will return to Makurdi once certain conditions set by the NNL board are met.
During an inspection of the ongoing works at McCarty Stadium, he explained that temporary measures are being implemented to allow matches to be played while construction continues. Sand will be used to fill pits initially excavated for pillars, enabling spectators to watch games safely while renovations progress on other parts of the stadium.
The commissioner also revealed plans to convert the players’ camp into a spectator stand, allowing fans to view matches comfortably without disrupting ongoing construction.
Lobi Stars are scheduled to play their next away NNL match on Thursday in Kano, with hopes that their next home fixture will take place at McCarty Stadium. Imojime praised Benue fans for their patience and pledged that, under Governor Hyacinth Alia and his leadership, Lobi Stars will soon enjoy the comfort of returning to their home ground.
