Lobi Stars Strengthen Pre-Season Confidence With Abakaliki Win

Posted : 30 October 2026

Lobi Stars continued their preparations for the new season with a 2-0 victory over Abakaliki FC in a Grade A pre-season friendly at the McCarthy Stadium, Makurdi.

The Pride of Benue capitalised on an early opportunity to take control, with Dominic Foga firing home in the second minute to give Coach Bala Nikiyu’s side the lead.

Abakaliki responded by dominating possession and applying pressure in the hosts’ half, but Lobi Stars remained organised defensively to preserve their advantage at the break.

The visitors continued to push for an equaliser after the restart, setting up an engaging second half in which both teams created scoring opportunities.

However, Lobi Stars proved more clinical in the closing stages, with Victor Amos calmly converting to double the hosts’ advantage and seal the victory.

Despite the positive result, Nikiyu said the encounter had exposed areas requiring attention as the team continued to prepare for the forthcoming campaign.

The coach expressed optimism about the club’s prospects, noting that the arrival of new players had strengthened the squad ahead of the new season.

He added that addressing the identified weaknesses would be important to ensuring the team was adequately prepared for the challenges ahead.
