2025/2026 NNL Season: Lobi Stars Strengthen Squad with Two New Signings

Posted : 01 January 2026

Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi have signed two new players as part of efforts to reinforce the squad ahead of the second round of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

The players, unveiled on Wednesday in Makurdi, are Egigogo Bello, who joins from Niger Tornadoes, and Jonathan Abu. The duo are expected to add quality and depth as the Alia Boys intensify their push for promotion.

Speaking after completing his move, Abu expressed confidence that he would provide solid support to the attacking unit to improve the club’s goal output. Bello, on his part, pledged to bring his experience and commitment to help Lobi Stars achieve their objectives for the season.

Meanwhile, club chairman Terver Ikya revealed that the management plans to sign four additional players to further boost the team’s chances of returning to the top flight. He explained that he assumed office barely 10 days before the start of the league season, after most preparations had already been concluded.

Ikya noted that the technical crew was retained but strengthened with additional coaches, adding that the team initially struggled, particularly in away fixtures. He also disclosed that Governor Hyacinth Alia had approved that the club play its second-round home matches in Makurdi while renovation works continue at the Aper Aku Stadium.

The chairman praised the governor for his consistent support, including intervention in resolving a registration ban that once threatened the club’s participation. He further confirmed that all players’ allowances have been paid and clarified that the club is focused on reinforcing key areas rather than overhauling the entire squad.

“The newly signed players are on one-year contracts and are expected to make a significant impact as we pursue our promotion ambition,” Ikya added.
