Already relegated, Lobi Stars FC of Markurdi will eventually bid farewell to top-flight football as they host the resurgent Bendel Insurance FC for the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 38 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, popularly known as the Cathedral.
For the second season running, Lobi Stars have played their home matches away from home, as Aper Aku Stadium in Markurdi has been closed for renovations for about two years now.
While controversy rages over the poor handling of the Aper Aku Stadium in Markurdi, the Alia Boys have been the victims, pushed out of the elite league due to poor home performances coupled with disappointing away games.
Just last year, the Alia Boys were contesting for the Premier League crown, and now they are the team with the fewest points to survive relegation, having had their relegation status confirmed with four games remaining in the season.
For the last game, however, Lobi Stars will welcome a high-flying team, Bendel Insurance, who might still be seeking more glory, although it might seem needless.
The Benin Arsenals are in fifth position, just below Ikorodu City but level on points (56), while holding a lower goal difference.
A win for Greg Ikhenoba’s side would see them leapfrog to fourth position if Ikorodu City lose their match.
