Lobi Stars demonstrated their strength once again by overcoming a resilient Unity FA side with a 2-1 win in a thrilling friendly match at McCarthy Stadium, Makurdi.
From the opening whistle, the game was filled with intensity and attacking intent. The Alia Boys dominated possession, creating multiple scoring opportunities and earning several corners and free kicks. Despite their dominance, the visitors’ goalkeeper produced several spectacular saves, keeping the first half goalless.
At the start of the second half, Technical Adviser Abubakar Bala made wholesale changes to the outfield lineup, retaining only goalkeeper Itodo Akor. Surprisingly, it was Unity FA who struck first when Unite Ahmadu converted from close range to put the visitors ahead 1-0.
The early setback galvanized Lobi Stars. Moments later, Emmanuel Ofem delivered a powerful free kick that nearly found the net, leveling the score in spectacular fashion. The pressure continued, and Valentine Egiga completed the comeback with a perfectly timed header from a throw-in, securing Lobi Stars’ second goal.
Despite continued attacking efforts from both sides, no additional goals were scored, and the referee’s final whistle confirmed a 2-1 victory for the Pride of Benue.
After the match, Coach Abubakar Bala commended his players for their performance and fighting spirit, while acknowledging that there is still work to be done as the team fine-tunes preparations for the new NNL season.
