2025/2026 NNL Mid-Season Friendly: Lobi Stars Edge FRSC FC 1–0

Posted : 08 February 2026

Lobi Stars FC tested their newly upgraded home ground, McCarthy Stadium, on Saturday, 7th February, 2026, with a hard-fought 1–0 friendly win over FRSC FC of Abuja.

The Pride of Benue, focused on their push back to the elite league, started the match with purpose and intensity. Crisp passes flowed through midfield, connecting neatly with the defence as the Alia Boys patiently built up play, probing for the perfect moment to strike.

The breakthrough came in the 25th minute. Paul Itim rose highest in the box, towering above goalkeeper Azubuike Stephen to power a header home from Suur Kumaga’s beautifully delivered corner kick, giving Lobi Stars the lead.

Okoh Chukuma nearly doubled the advantage in the 40th minute with a precise header, but the FRSC keeper tipped it over for a corner, which went unused. Despite several missed opportunities, the first half ended 1–0 in favour of the Alia Boys.

The second half saw Lobi Stars continue to press, making tactical substitutions to inject fresh energy. The Shoe Get Size Boys probed relentlessly, pressing high and taking the game to their opponents, but FRSC’s defensive line remained resolute, denying further goals.

The match ended 1–0, with Lobi Stars showing control, discipline, and attacking intent throughout.

Speaking to the press, Head Coach John Onuh emphasized that the team is still in a rebuilding phase, which he expects to mature ahead of the upcoming league challenges.

The recently upgraded McCarthy Stadium, now approved by the Nigeria National League (NNL) as fully suitable for hosting league matches, will see Lobi Stars’ home fixtures starting from Matchday 8 against Doma United.

The facility upgrade is the result of the tireless efforts of Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, complemented by the club chairman’s dedication to improving stands, gates, dressing rooms, and other facilities for players and fans alike.
