Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a £40 million deal, bolstering their defensive options ahead of the new season. The 21-year-old, who has impressed with consistent performances since arriving in the Premier League, is set to join the reigning champions after playing all 38 league matches for the Cherries last season, contributing two goals and six assists. Bournemouth have already lined up Adrien Truffert from Rennes as Kerkez’s replacement.
The move reunites Kerkez with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who was at Bournemouth when the full-back joined from AZ Alkmaar in 2023. Before his Premier League stint, Kerkez enjoyed a breakout campaign with AZ, where he scored five goals and provided seven assists in 52 appearances, helping the Dutch side to a fourth-place finish and a Europa Conference League semi-final run. His early development included spells at Hungarian side Gyor and AC Milan, though he never featured in a senior match for the Italian giants.
Kerkez will become the latest addition to Liverpool’s squad during a busy transfer window that has already seen the Reds close in on a club-record £116 million deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and secure Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5 million.
His arrival raises questions about the future of current left-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas. While the club hopes to retain Robertson, now 31, there is openness to Tsimikas departing as Liverpool reshapes its squad under new leadership.
