Ekitike Scores as Liverpool Crush Frankfurt 5-1; Chelsea, Madrid, and Bayern Also Victorious

Posted : 23 October 2025
Hugo Ekitike scored against his former club as Liverpool thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in the Champions League.

Liverpool returned to winning ways in stunning fashion, routing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in Germany to revive their Champions League campaign. The Reds entered the fixture on the back of four straight defeats, including a narrow 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in their previous European outing.

Despite conceding early through Rasmus Kristensen, Liverpool responded powerfully, with Hugo Ekitike equalising against his former club before Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate both scored headers from corners to make it 3-1 at halftime. Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai added second-half goals to complete the dominant display, moving Liverpool into 10th position in the league-phase standings.

Chelsea also produced a 5-1 win, overpowering Ajax in a lively contest at Stamford Bridge that featured an early red card and multiple penalties. Ajax’s Kenneth Taylor was sent off before Marc Guiu and Moises Caicedo gave Chelsea control. Wout Weghorst briefly pulled one back from the spot, but Enzo Fernandez and Estevao extended the lead with penalties before halftime.

Tyrique George completed the scoring, marking the first time in Champions League history that three teenagers have scored for the same team. The victory continued Chelsea’s European resurgence following their opening loss to Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich maintained their perfect record in the competition, comfortably defeating Club Brugge 4-0 at the Allianz Arena. Seventeen-year-old Lennart Karl opened the scoring before Harry Kane netted his 20th goal of the season. Luis Diaz and Nicolas Jackson completed the rout, leaving the German champions among the five teams with a maximum nine points after three matches.

At the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 win over Juventus to also remain perfect in the tournament.

Jude Bellingham scored his first goal of the season, reacting quickest to a rebound after Vinicius Jr. struck the post. The result extended Juventus’ winless streak to seven games, while Madrid strengthened their position as one of the tournament favourites.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur were the only English side not to win, drawing 0-0 with Monaco. Sporting Lisbon came from behind to beat Marseille 2-1 after a red card changed the game’s momentum, while Victor Osimhen’s brace helped Galatasaray defeat Bodo/Glimt 3-1 in Istanbul.

Athletic Bilbao also won 3-1 against Qarabag, overturning an early deficit thanks to Gorka Guruzeta’s double. The next round of fixtures will feature headline clashes including Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich and Liverpool vs Real Madrid.
