Liam Rosenior is wasting no time as he begins his mission to transform Chelsea from mid-table performers into title contenders. The English manager has made it clear to the squad that he expects them to hit the ground running for the remainder of the season.
Rosenior replaced Italian coach Enzo Maresca and officially joined Chelsea on Tuesday from Racing Strasbourg. He is set to oversee his first match this Saturday when the London side travel to face Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup.
He was present in the stands on Wednesday as Chelsea suffered a 2-1 defeat to Fulham, a result that left the team eighth in the Premier League with just one win from their last nine games.
“For this opportunity to come at this stage of my career is fantastic, but my focus isn’t just about being Chelsea manager—it’s about being a winning Chelsea manager,” Rosenior told Sky Sports. “That is the message I gave to the players yesterday when I met them for the first time. We need to hit the ground running for the rest of the season.”
Chelsea face a packed schedule in January and early February, with 10 matches in just 31 days. Despite the hectic calendar, Rosenior is confident he can implement his style quickly.
“No, I think Enzo did an excellent job tactically,” he explained. “My approach isn’t drastically different. There are some characteristics I want to introduce, but above all, I want to see energy, fight, and unity on the pitch. I want a team that is hard to beat, runs for each other, and competes for every ball. Those are the areas where I can work closely with the players and make an immediate impact.”
Rosenior’s message is clear: Chelsea must combine tactical discipline with intensity and resilience if they are to climb the table and compete for the Premier League crown.
