Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan will unfortunately serve their first stadium ban in what could have been one of the fiercest Southwest Derbies against the league leaders, Remo Stars FC of Ikenne.

Recall that the management of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a stadium ban on the Oluyole Warriors, no thanks to the fans’ attack on the Ikorodu City entourage at the Lekan Salami Stadium following a disappointing 0-0 draw.

It was reported that the players and officials of Ikorodu City needed the intervention of Nigerian Army operatives before they could exit the stadium in Ibadan after a goalless draw against 3SC.

The NPFL then ordered the closure of the Lekan Salami Stadium to fans for the rest of the season.

However, what could have been an explosive match to be enjoyed by both clubs will now be played under the quietness of the once boisterous Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.

With just one win in five games, the Oluyole Warriors will be hoping to get one over their rivals in the Southwest Derby.

However, for the league leaders, Remo Stars, they unexpectedly dropped points at home to Katsina United last time out, a result that raised eyebrows considering Katsina’s poor away form.

Skipper Junior Nduka has already apologised to the fans and promised a response, but Remo will have to be at their best in this derby against a wounded Shooting Stars side.

Shooting Stars started the season brightly but have since slipped to sixth, now 14 points off the top. This game is more than just three points — it’s about pride.
