Leicester City women secure historic FA Cup semi-final berth with victory over Liverpool

Jutta Rantala netted twice, propelling Leicester City to a historic Women's FA Cup semi-final berth as they triumphed over Liverpool. Despite the hosts' early dominance in possession and chances at Prenton Park, Leicester proved more clinical in front of goal.

 

Rantala seized the initiative, slotting in the rebound for the opening goal, and later, she extended Leicester's lead with a powerful strike off the crossbar during a counter-attack in the second half. Despite Liverpool's efforts to equalize, Leicester's resilience secured a narrow lead, and they advanced to the semi-finals.

 

Leicester's dominance in front of goal showcased their efficiency, with Rantala's brace underscoring their clinical approach. The Foxes capitalized on Liverpool's struggles to convert possession into goals, ultimately securing a historic semi-final spot.

 

Assistant manager Jennifer Foster and first-team coach Stephen Kirby led the Foxes, with manager Willie Kirk absent from the touchline due to involvement in an internal club process. Despite Liverpool's attempts to rally with substitutions, they couldn't overturn Leicester's lead, leaving them without a home win since mid-November.
