Arsenal’s Leah Williamson expressed that her faith in “magic” was fully rewarded after the club’s remarkable victory in the women’s Champions League final against Barcelona. The only goal, scored by Stina Blackstenius, secured Arsenal’s first European title in 18 years, overcoming a strong Barcelona team aiming for their third consecutive trophy.
Speaking during the trophy parade in front of thousands of fans at the Emirates Stadium, Williamson emphasized her unwavering belief that the team could achieve something extraordinary.
Williamson revealed that throughout the tournament, she kept encouraging her teammates by asking, “do you believe in magic?” She was confident the team would triumph, especially after their win against Lyon, and that feeling carried through to the final.
A lifelong Arsenal supporter who joined the club as a child, Williamson was even a mascot when Arsenal last lifted the women’s Champions League trophy back in 2007.
In an emotional moment on stage, interviewed by Alex Scott—who scored in the 2007 final—Williamson reflected on the significance of the day, calling it a moment she will share with her grandchildren. She spoke of growing up admiring Arsenal’s success and how fulfilling it was to be part of that legacy as European champions. For Williamson, the victory is deeply personal: “My club. My Arsenal. Champions League winners. European champions.”
