Lazio Crush Juventus 3-0 to Join Inter at the Top of Serie A

Posted : 19 October 2026

Lazio strengthened their challenge for the Serie A title with an impressive 3-0 win over Juventus on Sunday, moving level on points with defending champions Inter Milan after seven league matches. The victory took Lazio to 19 points, their best return at this stage of a season, surpassing the 17 points recorded by Sven-Goran Eriksson's team during the 1999/2000 campaign.

The result also continued Lazio's strong start under Gennaro Gattuso, with the team demonstrating attacking efficiency and defensive discipline against a Juventus side that struggled to convert its opportunities. Lazio's points tally matched Inter's, although the Milan club retained the advantage in the standings on goal difference.

Lazio made the breakthrough in the 37th minute when Danish defender Oliver Provstgaard rose above the Juventus defence to head home Mattia Zaccagni's delivery following a short corner. The goal rewarded the visitors for their growing influence and gave them a valuable lead heading into half-time.

Juventus attempted to respond after the interval, introducing Nick Woltemade to strengthen their attack. However, the hosts could not find a way past Lazio's defence, with their efforts repeatedly failing to produce a decisive finish.

Isaksen and Dele-Bashiru Complete Juventus' Downfall

Lazio doubled their advantage in the 66th minute through another Danish international, Gustav Isaksen. Receiving the ball from Nuno Tavares, the winger cut inside before guiding a low, left-footed shot into the far corner, leaving the Juventus goalkeeper unable to intervene.

The second goal put Lazio firmly in control, forcing Juventus to commit more players forward in search of a response. Despite their increased attacking intent, the home side struggled to break down the visitors' organised defence.

Substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru delivered the final blow in the 89th minute. Collecting possession in his own half, he surged forward through the Juventus defence before entering the penalty area and slotting the ball into the net to complete a convincing 3-0 victory.

The result left Juventus facing further questions about their league form, while Lazio emerged from Turin with a significant boost to their title ambitions.

AC Milan Survive Late Atalanta Fightback

AC Milan secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Atalanta to finish the weekend in fourth place, four points behind the leaders. The hosts established a commanding advantage before having to withstand a late rally from the visitors.

Goncalo Ramos opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 24th minute after a handball by young Atalanta defender Relja Obric. Adrien Rabiot then extended Milan's lead before the break, taking advantage of another defensive error to put the home side in a strong position.

Mario Gila made it 3-0 in the 57th minute with a close-range header, seemingly putting the contest beyond Atalanta. However, the visitors responded through Gianluca Gaetano and Nikola Krstovic, who scored in the 66th and 81st minutes respectively to set up a tense finish.

Milan were forced to defend desperately in the closing stages, and goalkeeper Mike Maignan produced a crucial save to deny Davide Zappacosta in a one-on-one situation. The intervention preserved the three points and prevented Atalanta from completing an unlikely comeback.

Como Move Into the Top Five With Fiorentina Win

Como continued their encouraging campaign with a 3-1 away victory over Fiorentina, climbing to fifth place with 14 points. The result extended Fiorentina's disappointing start and left the club with just four points from seven matches.

Mattia Liberali and Nico Paz scored in quick succession during the first half to give Como a comfortable advantage. Fiorentina responded through Marin Pongracic shortly before the interval, briefly raising hopes of a comeback.

However, Anastasios Douvikas restored Como's two-goal cushion early in the second half, securing an important victory for Cesc Fabregas' side. The result marked Como's first win in four matches and reinforced their position among the league's early-season contenders.

Fabregas praised his team's performance, highlighting the quality of their overall display while acknowledging that their attacking approach inevitably carries risks.

Lecce Claim Comfortable Win Against Udinese

Lecce also enjoyed a productive Sunday, recording a 3-0 away victory over Udinese. Kialonda Gaspar, Konan N'Dri and Jamil Siebert all scored to secure the win and give their team a positive result in the latest round of Serie A fixtures.

The victory added another important result to a weekend that reshaped the standings across the top half of the table.

Serie A Title Race Tightens

Lazio's victory over Juventus was the standout result of the weekend, placing them level with Inter on 19 points and strengthening the belief that they could challenge for the championship. Their record-breaking start has raised expectations, although maintaining that level across the remainder of the season will be the greater test.

AC Milan also kept themselves within reach of the leading teams after overcoming Atalanta, while Como's rise into fifth place highlighted the growing competition for European qualification positions.

For Juventus, the defeat represents a setback as they attempt to regain consistency and close the gap on the leading sides. With Lazio and Inter setting the pace, the battle for the Serie A title is developing into an increasingly competitive contest.
