Lazio Beat Udinese 2-1 to Maintain Perfect Serie A Start

Lazio produced a late comeback to defeat Udinese 2-1 on Monday and preserve their perfect start to the Serie A season. The victory gave Gennaro Gattuso’s side three wins from three matches, putting them alongside Roma and Inter Milan as the league’s remaining teams with 100 per cent records.

Lazio had won their opening two matches 1-0, but they were forced to come from behind after Jesper Karlström broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half. The Udinese midfielder was played through by Keinan Davis before keeping his composure to fire between Christos Mandas’ legs.

The visitors responded strongly and finally found an equaliser in the 75th minute. Mattia Zaccagni created the opening with a low delivery into the area, allowing Davide Frattesi to stretch and send the ball into the roof of the net for his third goal of the campaign.

Gattuso then replaced Frattesi with Albert Gudmundsson in the 80th minute, and the substitute made an immediate impact. After Lazio threatened through Zaccagni, who struck the post, Gudmundsson completed the turnaround with a late header in the 88th minute.

The result marked Lazio’s third consecutive league victory and their first match this season in which they scored more than once. The comeback also highlighted the resilience Gattuso has demanded from his side as they continue their strong opening to the campaign.
