Lamine Yamal Wins Third Consecutive Young Talent Award at 2026 Ballon d’Or

Posted : 27 October 2026

Barcelona and Spain forward Lamine Yamal won the Men’s Young Talent of the Year award at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony in London on Monday, October 26, making history with a third consecutive victory. The 19-year-old also finished third in the men’s Ballon d’Or rankings, behind winner Harry Kane and runner-up Kylian Mbappé.

The award recognises Yamal’s outstanding performances and development as one of football’s brightest young stars. His latest triumph follows previous wins in 2024 and 2025, making him the first player to secure the honour three years in succession. The achievement further underlines his growing influence at both club and international level.

Yamal enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 season with Barcelona, recording 24 goals and 18 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions. He played an important role in helping the Catalan club win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup, while also earning recognition for his performances in the Spanish league.

His success extended to the international stage, where he represented Spain during their victorious 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign. His contribution to the national team’s triumph further strengthened his standing among the leading young players in world football.

Despite winning the young-player award, Yamal missed out on the main Ballon d’Or prize, which went to Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane. Mbappé finished second, while Yamal secured third place in the final rankings.

During his acceptance speech, Yamal showed appreciation for his Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsí, saying he believed the defender deserved the recognition. He also thanked Barcelona and the Spanish national team for their support, expressing his determination to continue working towards more individual and collective honours.

At just 19, Yamal continues to build an exceptional career, combining individual accolades with major team achievements. His third consecutive young-player award adds another milestone to his journey as he seeks to establish himself among the world’s best footballers and eventually challenge for the main Ballon d’Or.
