Lamine Yamal scores twice as Barcelona thrash Valencia 5-0

Barcelona continued their perfect start to the LaLiga season with a dominant 5-0 victory over Valencia at the Mestalla on Sunday. The defending champions have now won all four league matches and moved three points clear at the top of the table.

Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the sixth minute after Fermín López released him with a clever pass. The 19-year-old lifted his finish over goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski from a tight angle to give Barcelona an early advantage.

Valencia struggled to cope with Barcelona's movement and pressing. Yamal thought he had scored again shortly afterward, but the effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

Fermín doubled Barcelona's advantage in the 22nd minute. Anthony Gordon supplied the assist from inside the area, allowing the midfielder to fire a powerful shot into the bottom corner.

Barcelona continued to dominate before halftime. Yamal went close to a second, while Fermín also hit the post as Valencia goalkeeper Dimitrievski produced several important saves to keep the score respectable.

The visitors extended their lead four minutes after the restart. Yamal combined with Fermín, who then supplied Raphinha for a simple close-range finish at the back post. The goal was Raphinha's sixth of the season.

Pedri added Barcelona's fourth in the 79th minute after receiving a pass from Dani Olmo. The midfielder calmly swept the ball into the bottom corner as Hansi Flick's side continued to create opportunities at will.

Yamal completed his brace five minutes later. Olmo found him inside the area, and the winger kept his composure to finish from close range and complete another outstanding individual performance.

Barcelona finished the match with 17 goals from their opening four league games. The champions have also established a three-point advantage over Real Madrid, who suffered a 1-0 defeat against Real Betis on Friday.

Fermín was particularly influential, scoring once and providing two assists. Yamal also continued his impressive scoring form after previously scoring twice against Rayo Vallecano.

Barcelona's summer signing Rodri started his first match for the club after joining from Manchester City. New signing Gabriel Jesus also made his Barcelona debut as a late substitute following his move from Arsenal.

The defeat leaves Valencia at the bottom of LaLiga with one point from four matches. Carlos Corberán's side have lost three games and conceded eight goals, while Barcelona sit top with 12 points and a goal difference of plus 15.
