LALIGA 2023: A year of triumphs, milestones, and transformations

Posted : 03 January 2024

The football landscape in Spain witnessed a myriad of highlights in the year, ranging from FC Barcelona securing LALIGA EA SPORTS to Sevilla FC clinching their seventh Uefa Europa League title. Xavi Hernández's managerial prowess led Barcelona to their league triumph, coinciding with farewells from stalwarts Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Meanwhile, Sevilla displayed their European dominance, winning the Europa League in a penalty shootout against AS Roma after navigating a challenging path through Fenerbahçe, Juventus, PSV Eindhoven, and Manchester United.

Promotion to LALIGA EA SPORTS saw Granada CF crowned champions of the second tier, joined by UD Las Palmas and Deportivo Alavés.

Lamine Yamal made waves as one of the youngest debutants and scorers in LALIGA EA SPORTS, while Antoine Griezmann equaled Luis Aragonés' goal record, becoming Atlético de Madrid's all-time top scorer.

Real Betis legend Joaquín bid farewell after equalling appearance records, highlighting the diverse milestones achieved by players across the league.

Girona FC emerged as potential history-makers, challenging Real Madrid and finishing the year level on points with the league leaders. Jude Bellingham's immediate impact at Real Madrid, notably with a brace in ELCLASICO against FC Barcelona, showcased his effectiveness in front of goal.

Several clubs celebrated milestones, with Athletic Club, Atlético de Madrid, and RC Celta marking anniversaries through creative initiatives, legends matches, and unique shirt releases.

Beyond on-field achievements, LALIGA underwent significant transformations, rebranding as LALIGA in capital letters and partnering with EA SPORTS. The league's new symbol, represented by the initials "LL," captures the celebration of players scoring goals and fans forming an "L" during goal celebrations. The corporate color coral was introduced, symbolizing football's pride, passion, energy, and excitement.

Additionally, the Boost LALIGA projects, exemplified by Real Betis' Rafael Gordillo Sports City and Getafe CF's modernized offices, underline the league's commitment to growth and development.

These initiatives reflect LALIGA's evolution into the largest football ecosystem globally, with a focus on responsibility, inclusivity, and adherence to rules.
