Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State paid a scheduled visit to inspect the final stage of the extensive renovation works at Lafia City Stadium, located at Bukan-Sidi in Lafia, the state capital.
The Governor, accompanied by senior government officials including the Secretary to the State Government, Shuaibu Labaran Magaji (SAN), toured various sections of the stadium where renovation is 99 percent complete.
He was guided by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Kwanta Yakubu, alongside the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Alhassan, and other key sports stakeholders.
Sule expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of the work, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transforming the stadium into a top-tier sports facility.
The renovation project includes the construction of a Governor’s comfort room equipped with state-of-the-art gadgets, new technical benches for teams and match officials, replacement of the football turf, installation of floodlights for night games, a high-power generating set, remodeled locker rooms for home and away teams, redesign and security upgrades of the VVIP and VIP stands, reconstruction of the retractable tunnel, and general beautification of the entire facility.
Contractors confirmed the project will be completed four days before Nasarawa United’s next league match against visiting Bayelsa United in Lafia.
Governor Sule noted that the upgraded stadium will not only restore its prominence but also position Nasarawa State as a hub for sports tourism in Nigeria. He commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, led by Commissioner Yakubu, and the contractors for delivering quality work on schedule, expressing confidence that the facility would be fully operational ahead of the state’s upcoming league fixtures.
Earlier, Commissioner Yakubu thanked Governor Sule for his proactive support for sports-related projects in the state. He explained that the renovation was prompted by a directive from the Nigeria Premier Football League requiring clubs to upgrade their home grounds to meet league standards.
Lafia City Stadium is a multi-sports facility and has become a preferred venue for sports stakeholders across the country to host their events.
