LA 2028 Olympics Race: Falcons Assemble 28-Player Squad for Comoros Test

Interim Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen has summoned a 28-player squad for Nigeria’s second-round 2028 Olympic qualifying battle against Comoros, with several established Super Falcons stars joined by emerging talents.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Michelle Alozie, Oluwatosin Demehin and Ashley Plumptre headline the squad released for the two-legged encounter.

Midfielders Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini are also included, alongside forwards Asisat Oshoala, Gift Monday, Uchenna Kanu and Joy Omewa.

Eguavoen has equally handed opportunities to a number of younger players, including Christiana Uzoma, Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwocha, Shakirat Moshood, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Janet Akekoromowei.

The invited players are expected to report at the AM2PM Hotel, Ijebu-Ode, on Saturday, October 3, ahead of the crucial tie.

Although Comoros are officially designated as hosts for the first leg on Friday, October 9, the match will take place at the Remo Stars Sports Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, because the island nation does not have a CAF-approved venue for international fixtures.

Nigeria will also stage the return leg at the same venue on Tuesday, October 13.

The Falcons must overcome Comoros over the two legs to progress to the third round of the Olympic qualifying series, which forms part of a five-stage campaign scheduled to conclude in December next year.

A successful outcome would keep Nigeria on course for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
